Watched a Spanish movie lately? Were you listening on the radio and a Spanish song caught your attention? There are mediums that are provided nowadays in helping people best to understand and learn foreign languages. The Spanish language, being one of the most popular languages in the world, is the language that is also sought after in many aspects of business and career.

If you know how to speak Spanish, there is a high chance of getting good and desirable positions in a company. Since there are millions of people who already knows the language, the demand of getting more manpower within a business community who knows how to handle issues of Spanish speaking customers is already a priority.

There is however, another view to how people learn a language nowadays. No matter how interested these people may seem; the idea of allocating minutes of their daily hours is usually the problem. People tend to focus on things that give out quick results. If you’re just willing to, there are actually several ways for you to study Spanish the quick way, though it’s not the same thing in saying that it’s going to make the entire process quicker.

Here are a couple of tips to help learn Spanish quickly.

Keep in mind that any word in English which ends in –tion (attention, vacation etc), always has the -ción word ending in Spanish language. The examples cited above then become atención and vacación respectively.

Next is the word ending –ty in English. Any English word which ends in –ty would become a Spanish which ends in –dad. Such as the word responsibility becomes responsibilidad.

These words in Spanish are easily recognizable when being read by an English speaker who has not learned any type of Spanish course or lesson. This is the good thing about learning Spanish, words just come up to you and you already know what it means in English.

There are a few other rules similar to the examples given above but don’t entirely rely on them though these truly can help you out in examining and learning Spanish words. To be sure, always look up a word from a vocabulary source.

By: Shareen Aguilar

World Report and US News remain the ideal standards when it comes to checking out rankings of top nursing schools within the US. These two sources base their rankings and reports by asking administrators, deans as well as faculty members of various nursing programs to assess other schools based on the educational quality and the preparedness of students who want to pursue a nursing career. The employers hiring new nursing graduates are also surveyed to keep a tab on the best schools for nursing.

Two Nursing Levels

There are two common levels when it comes to nursing. One is the associate level and is called the ADN or Associate Degree Nurse, which is a two year course and the other is the bachelor level called BSN or Bachelor of Science Nurses, which has duration of four years. You can easily get access to accelerated programs for both the levels if you have a degree in another segment or have credits in your college. If you have a bachelor degree, you can certainly expect to earn much more income. On an average, a BSN gets around 52000 USD while also being able to get promotions to managerial or supervisory posts quicker compared to an ADN.

Reputation And Rankings

One way to ascertain if a school is one of the top nursing schools is to check the reputation of the institution. You can check online for various customer opinions as well as reviews of students who have already studied at this institution. You should also check with students who have passed out from the school about the placement success and how well the course prepared them for the workplace. These factors are crucial because you do not want to invest in a school, which does not offer you quality education as that would be a waste of time, money and resources on your part.

Accreditation

One other aspect you need to consider is if the school is accredited to any state nursing authority or not. Accreditation is important because it assures you that the certification received will be recognized by the state nursing bodies. In addition, if a school has accreditation, it will also ensure that at a later stage if you want to pursue continuing education in the same niche, you can do so.

Online And Offline

The third and perhaps most important way to assess if the school is one of the top nursing schools is to check if they provide a combination of online and offline classroom modes. While offline modes of study can help students pick up practical lessons, most universities these days provide online education to help students manage hectic work schedules and study time. With online courses, students can choose a suitable time for study, schedule clinical experience sessions as well as balance out their work schedule, family commitments and academic pursuits thus leading to a faster and easier way to become a nurse.

By: Kelly Hunter

Does the word “teacher overload” sound familiar? Are you one of those new teachers who has opted for marking everything? Many teachers decide to suddenly become organized a few days before the New Year, but with these few tips, your organizational efforts will already pay off. You will be destressed you as you begin your school year.

1. One of the oldest rules and a great tip is to avoid unnecessary checking. Now that the school year already started, you’ll want to make sure that you aren’t taking home too many assignments and paperwork that you cannot handle.

2. Make it another rule to set out blocks of time after school to find out “where you are.” You’ll also need your own space to organize your own papers and materials the way you are used to. This is a necessity, not a luxury!

3. Keep a planner, consult it frequently and use it to record ongoing issues and reminders. Get into the habit of making lists. Cross each task off as you complete it. Use your planner to record also interesting activities or ideas which you can quickly transfer to a card box or a word document on your home PC.

4. If you haven’t done so already, teach yourself how to touch type. It’s worth it! Use programs like Excel for calculating grades and percentages.

5. Keep a master copy of each worksheet that you prepare. Avoid bulk copies which can quickly add to unnecessary clutter. File as you go. You may want to file once a month or every few weeks so that you are on track of what needs to be filed. Recycle any unnecessary paper.

Another bonus tip.

By Sunday night, make sure all of your materials are in order for the upcoming week. Stock up on necessary materials which can take precious minutes away from lesson planning.

So what are you waiting for? Starting organizing your clutter today. You’ll be happy you did.

By: Dorit Sasson

You have most probably just walked out of a lecture and you’ve been given a task – write an essay on the economics of china’s hotel economy, or Maslow’s hierarchy of needs in Organizational learning. Chance are, you have just started your course or got through the last academic year producing Mediocre essays at best. Below are 7 tips to help you submit great essays.

1. Plan it well and start NOW

Ok. I know you will have heard it a lot recently – you need to plan your time, but its true. You need to put aside time from your lectures and socializing with your friends (not to mention a few hours earning money in your job) to actually understand what you will be researching and writing in your essay. Starting straight after you get set the task will put you in a better position than starting a day before submission.

2. Establish clear direction and understanding

If you are wanting for people reading your essay to know that you are confident in writing essays and understanding your topic, then you yourself should be clear about what direction the essay is headed in. Oh, and it could be good if you establish a direction for your research, structure and argument – they’re winning aspects of a great essay.

3. Your thoughts and research materials need to be organized

Just to make a clear point, you have to actually read and understand research materials – some students fail to notice that. If you organize these materials, by highlighting, alphabetical-Ising and ensuring you know which quote is where then you should be able to find information to address quickly and find opinionated arguments to support your flow of argument.

4. Learn from other writers

Are you confused about what or how to write? Then go take a look at other people’s essays – how have they leaped you glued to their paper and managed to keep consistent in their writing style? Is it interesting to read or does the paper jump around from one position to the next? Have a word with your lecturers/professors and librarians to see other essays from the previous year – are you up to par with them?

5. Plagiarism is a NO, NO

If you are managing your research material right, then you should be keeping track of the references and quotations, don’t pass your work off as someone else’s as it just won’t work – you will get caught. Your professor marking your essay is a professional and expert in the subject you are writing about – they will have read all the sources of the works you have written and know the style of certain authors. If you copy something from an author, and don’t reference it, then they will spot it a mile off, just don’t do it.

6. Draft a copy

Writing a first draft to check over your work is imperative, not only because you will probably re-write some bits because they don’t make sense, but also because you will want to ensure you have got everything in. Miss out the introduction and conclusion at this point though, as you will want to make sure your essay body is done.

7. Presentation is everything

Being a genius and submitting something that is perfect is only seen in the movies. Being human means we can’t notice mistakes in grammar, spelling and flow of argument all of the time – our brains simply don’t let us. You may spell check your document, but do you have it proofread by another person? If not, then you are making a huge mistake – not only will your essay look poorly written, but the illogical flow of argument and bad sentence structure could me the difference of a few percentage in your mark. The result – it could be the difference between a 1st and a 2:1 to your final grade, or you missing out on a distinction on your masters, even because of a few mistakes in a couple of essays – they all add up.

By: Nick Sanders

Are you the parent of a child with autism? Are you the parent of a
child receiving special education services? Would you like to learn
parenting tips that will help you become an equal participant in your
child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) meeting? This article will
discuss 3 ways that tape recording can help you in advocating for an
appropriate education for your child with a disability

3 ways to use tape recording:

1. Tape recording can allow you to focus on what is happening during
the meeting, rather than focusing on taking notes. Listen to
everything that is going on, and do write down important things. Speak
up and give your opinion as often as you need to, for the benefit of
your child.

2. If an IEP meeting is tape recorded, you will be able to go over it
at a later time, and fill in your notes. It will also allow you to
remember things that may have happened that you missed. IEP meetings
can be adversarial. A tape recording allows you to listen to the
interactions in the privacy of your own home.

3. Tape recordings of IEP meetings can be used as evidence at a due
process hearing. In order to use a tape recording, as evidence, it
will have to be transcribed. Tape recorders should be digital, and
powerful enough to pick up several different people’s voices.

A lot of special education personnel become very resistant when
parents want to tape record IEP meetings. Below is an interpretation
of tape recording under IDEA, by the Office of Special Education
Programs (OSEP).

OSEP published its question #12 opinion in the Federal Register Volume
57, No. 183, Sept. 29, 1992 interpreting tape recording IEP meetings
and stated “that it is permissible to tape IEP meetings at the option
of either the parents or the agency.”

There have also been several law suits that have given parents the
right to tape record IEP meetings. One of these court cases in
Connecticut V.W. v. Favolise had the court reason that parents have a
statutory right, to attend and participate in IEP meetings, and the
district could not legally engage in an act to limit the parents
rights.

If special education personnel refuse to allow you to tape record,
because they say that they have a district policy, ask for a written
copy of the policy. OSEP in a memorandum 91-24 July 18, 1991 stated
“Thus any policy limiting or prohibiting a parent’s right to tape
record the proceedings at an IEP meeting must provide for exceptions
if they are necessary to ensure that the parent is able to understand
the proceedings at the IEP meeting. . .” Ask your school district for
an exception, so that you can understand the IEP meeting.

With the written policy in hand, cancel the IEP meeting, and send a
state complaint to your state department of education. Tell them that
you asked school personnel for an exception and they refused. The
state will have 60 days to resolve your complaint.

Tape recording can help you be an active participant in your child’s
IEP meeting. Your child is depending on your help, do not let them
down.

By: JoAnn Collins

So you need some help or tips on how to study, not a problem. Studying is not hard, and getting good grades is not hard either. It’s all simply a matter of how much effort and work you are willing to put in. Keep in mind however that studying requires work, and sometimes for certain people this can mean hard work.

Like anything in life that is worth doing work and focus are required. Look at it this way, if you are making sacrifices now they will pay off in the future. Some other people are just lucky and don’t really have to work that hard. There is a lot of variance when it comes to studying and how to study properly. Different people learn in different ways, what I am going to address here is basically some tips on how study effectively.

If you are in college or university, don’t miss classes as a rule of thumb. Go to lectures pay attention, sit in the front of the class, get to know your teachers and take notes as well.

Make sure you balance study time with play time. In university you’re naturally going to go out and party and drink. One good thing you can do is incorporate some exercise. Exercising stimulates the brain and body and will help you in focusing on studying as well. Prepare for tests and examinations well in advance. It has been proven that studying right after a class can help your brain retain the information you learned 90 percent better.

Find out what works for you and stick with it. Making practice tests is one of the best things you can do. When doing your readings browse through the chapter first and make a question out of headings and or sub headings. When you read this will create a purpose for your reading. You are searching for an answer. Also its good to brows through the chapter first and read the problems at the end of each chapter. Take notes while you read and then consolidate your lecture notes and book notes. Do problems and practice and practice till you know it like the back of your hand.

In order to make practices tests for the purpose of studying all you got to do is utilize questions from class from the end of the chapters make up your own multiple choice by looking at lecture slides etc.

By: Amit K Sharma

What exactly went wrong with your lesson? Why did it backfire? These are the first questions new teachers eventually ask themselves somewhere between the minute they walk out the door and arrive home.

For a new teacher trying to juggle the ropes of classroom management and lesson planning, it is hard to also figure out what exactly went wrong in the lesson.

Knowing what went wrong in a lesson is key to also planning the next few lessons. Since so much in a lesson depends on what happened in the lesson previous to it, you’ll need tips and strategies to figure out how to improve your lessons quickly. If you’ve been reflecting on these questions, that is a good sign that you are on the right track to experiencing teacher growth!

A good way to speed up the process is to of course, apply what you’ve learned from your reflection, is to start by address these areas in your lesson plans.

Start by asking yourselves: “What went wrong?” and “What didn’t?” as you wash the dishes or drive home. Don’t worry if the answer isn’t apparent right away. By mulling on the question, eventually, you’ll reach the answer as you write your plans or read the textbook.Create distance and objectivity as you begin to formulate in your mind the answers. Remember you will both good and bad lessons. It is important to equally remember the good lessons. Many new teachers quickly forget this. Journaling can also facilitate the process. You might find that by writing about it, you might come up with a few tactics for solving the problem at hand.

Are you struggling with specific areas of classroom management such as planning effective rules and procedures?

Are you still teaching for that one effective way to instruct students?

If you haven’t yet been able to come up on your own with specific areas for improvement, then you can also talk about it with your mentor or a teacher colleague, or with somebody you can trust upfront. There are many teacher forums and community links you can read for help, support and encouragement. There’s no one right way to become a better teacher, but there are many ways which you should try.

By: Dorit Sasson

A Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) is the highest degree level of achievement possible in one of many different academic fields. Many people who complete a doctoral program chose to go into research, teaching, or administration. A Ph.D. and Doctor of Education (Ed .D.) both vary from program to program, and school to school, but the main difference between them is the design and intent of the programs.

An Ed.D. program generally prepares practitioners. The program would include coursework, internships, and independent work in learning and direction, staff development, supervising, evaluation, and research synthesis. The degree is awarded to students who have made significant contributions to a particular field, especially in the field of research. The main contribution is often a research-based doctoral thesis or dissertation that is defended in front of committee before the student can earn the degree. Those who earn the degree generally use the title “doctor” in academic environments, research, and in publications. To receive a doctorate in almost all areas of study, a student must prove that they’ve successfully completed a bachelor’s and master’s degree, although requirements may vary by field.

The Ph.D. program is a research degree and includes coursework, internships, and independent work in research designing, data analysis, and instructional theory. Ph.D. graduates tend to work in universities and research-based environments. Therefore a Ph.D. is based on original research while an Ed .D is practice-oriented. As with most masters’ degree, be sure not to take too long to or you will start to lose credit hours. Doctorate programs require the completion of residency requirements (each school will define their residency requirements). Candidates are also required to work on a dissertation after completion of the coursework. This phase of the program is often referred to as ABD (all but dissertation).

It usually takes about three to four year to complete the doctoral degree although most people take longer if they are not full-time students. Many schools have a requirement that the degree must be completed within seven to eight years. Statistics indicate that many people start the doctoral degree but do not finish for various reasons. Some get to the ABD stage and never finish if they get a new job, have increased responsibilities, or a raise at their job. The reasons vary. So, what is the determinant for successful completion?

Motivation is a huge determinant of success! Being motivated means that you need to be interested in the courses and program, keep in touch with the instructor, classmates, readings etc and see the light at the end of the tunnel. e the pursuit of similar goals.

Goal setting and personal rewards i.e. both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation will keep you going. Adequate planning goals and setting milestones is certainly helpful. For example, tell yourself, “I will have completed half my coursework in one year” and then create a program of study to help you accomplish that. That will give you a degree of satisfaction and the energy to keep going. Always set aside a study place and time with no distractions. For example the library, computer lab or your study room at home may be the best place to concentrate and get work done.

Successful e-learners know how to balance. Don’t forget to surround yourself with positive family, friends, and co-workers who will root for you! Also don’t forget to take time off to relax and recoup. Do something different and fun from time to time. That will keep you refreshed. All said and done, hard work, determination, discipline gets you to the finish line!

A Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) is the highest degree level of achievement possible in one of many different academic fields. Many people who complete a doctoral program chose to go into research, teaching, or administration. But what are the indicators of successful completion?

By: Sophia Peters
